Road Scholar Learning Adventures Celebrate U.S. History
As we celebrate Black History Month and Presidents’ Day in February, Road Scholar offers a selection of learning adventures that explore iconic places and people in U.S. history. Led by expert lecturers and instructors who bring history to life, each program offers access to important stories and places in our country’s history through in-depth lectures and excursions. A sampling of historic learning adventures includes:
Journey to the Deep South and the heart of the civil rights movement. Follow in the footsteps of the venerable Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and his legendary marches, and hear the story of Rosa Parks and the Montgomery bus boycott.
Join historians and scholars from around the world at the Roosevelt Symposium at Dickinson State University to broaden your knowledge of and appreciation for the multi-faceted accomplishments of the 26th president.
Discover the world of Thomas Jefferson, third president of the United States, and his friends and neighbors, James Monroe and James Madison.
On visits to Colonial Williamsburg, Historic Jamestown and Yorktown Battlefield, expert instructors will take you on a journey to the most pivotal moments in American history. Look out over the James River from a 17th-century church in Historic Jamestown and imagine the settlers from the first permanent English colony.
